City commissions and advisory board members serve a critical role in the development of public policy and policy implementation.  Board and commission members advise the City Council and act as the voice of our residents.  Members are appointed by the Mayor, approved by the City Council, and serve staggered three-year terms beginning in January.

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board oversees the development of and tasks related to all Soldotna parks, campgrounds, and the Sports Center. The duties of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board are defined in Soldotna Municipal Code Chapter 2.50.030.    

The Advisory Board consists of seven members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.  Members serve staggered three-year terms. The Advisory Board meets the first Thursday of January, March, May, July, September, and November.

The public is welcome to attend any meeting of the Advisory Board and participate at opportunities for public comments on the agenda. Upcoming agendas are posted on the City of Soldotna Meetings Portal

Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Members

The Planning & Zoning Commission is an advisory group to the Soldotna City Council on issues and activities related to planning, land use regulation, and community development in general. The Commission also advises the Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission on all platting matters within the city limits.  Their duties include: preparing and updating a comprehensive plan for the city; reviewing land use permits such as conditional use, site plan, and variance applications; and making recommendations to the City Council on proposed amendments to the zoning map and land use code.

The body consists of seven commissioners who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.  Members serve staggered three-year terms.

The Airport Commission is responsible for making recommendations regarding development and use of airport property. Members of the Airport Commission also review the Airport Master Plan and the rules and regulations for airport operation. The duties of the Airport Commission are defined in Soldotna Municipal Code Chapter 2.50.040.

Airport Commission Members

The Library Advisory Board was initially established with the enactment of Ordinance No. 61 on August 15, 1974. The board makes recommendations to the Librarian, City Manager and Council regarding matters related to the public library, library services and the operational policies and procedures. The duties of the Library Board are defined in Soldotna Municipal Code 2.50.020.

The body consists of five members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.  Members serve staggered three-year terms.
