May “Bike Month”
The Cities of Kenai and Soldotna were recently awarded bronze designation as ‘bike friendly communities’ from the League of American Bicyclists, joining just three other Alaskan cities with that recognition. Mayor Anderson has proclaimed the month of May “Bike Month,” and wants to encourage everyone to have a safe and fun summer on our roads and trails. The community-led advocacy group, Biking in Kenai & Soldotna, would also like to remind motorists to please remember to look both ways at crossings for pedestrians and bicyclists. Vehicles should allow 4 feet of space when passing a bicyclist, and riders should remember to wear their helmet, bright reflective colors, and to have front and back lights to ensure maximum visibility on the roadside. The City of Soldotna wishes everyone a happy and healthy Bike Month.
