SOLDOTNA POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE
January 12, 2018

AND THE DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNLESS AND UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY**
On 1/5/2018 at 6:58 p.m., Soldotna Police responded to the area of the Kenai Spur Highway and Marydale Avenue for a reddi report. Investigation led to the arrest of Peter E. Basargin, 39, of Homer, for driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He was taken to Wildwood.
On 01/06/18 at 7:16 a.m., Soldotna police responded to the U-Haul store on the Kenai Spur Highway after receiving a report of criminal mischief. An object was thrown through the windshield of a truck on the property, causing about $950 in damage. Investigation led to Corbin R. Schoeffel, 21, of Soldotna, being issued a criminal citation for criminal mischief in the fourth degree and released.
On 1/7/2017 at 4:10 p.m., Soldotna police contacted Laura McKenna, 27, of Soldotna, and arrested her on an outstanding warrant. She was taken to Wildwood without bail.
On 1/10/18 at 1:43 a.m., Soldotna police responded to the Holiday Station Store for a male slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle in the parking lot. Investigation led to the arrest of Richard Poage, 41, of Soldotna, for two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree and for not having vehicle insurance. Poage was taken to Wildwood and was also issued a municipal citation for driving while license suspended.
On 1/10/18 at 11:36 p.m., Soldotna police stopped a vehicle on the Kenai Spur Highway at Marydale Avenue. The driver, Arnold Sipes, 26, of Kenai, was issued a municipal citation for driving while license revoked and released. A passenger, Sarah Whitaker, 24, of Kenai, was issued a criminal citation for allowing an unauthorized person to drive and released.
On 1-11-18 at 4:26 p.m., Soldotna police responded to the area of Mile 93.5 Sterling Highway for a report of a male that had been assaulted by a passenger while driving on the highway. After pulling to the side of the highway, the driver exited the vehicle and the passenger then stole the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle on Sharkathmi Avenue and arrested Lamar L. Miller, 46, of Sterling for vehicle theft in the first degree and assault in the fourth degree. Miller was taken to Wildwood without bail. The vehicle was returned to the owner.
