SOLDOTNA POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE

October 10, 2017

**ANY CHARGES REPORTED IN THESE PRESS RELEASES ARE MERELY ACCUSATIONS

AND THE DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNLESS AND UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY**

 

On 9/21/17 at 9:23 a.m., Soldotna police attempted to stop a vehicle being driven recklessly on Redoubt Avenue. The vehicle failed to stop and fled the area. The driver was identified as Dalton Bush, 25 of Soldotna.  Several days later, Bush was contacted at Wildwood and charged with failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer in the first degree.

 

On 09/29/2017 at 11:43 p.m., Soldotna police responded to the Taco Bell area for a disturbance with the individuals involved leaving the area in a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle near Swiftwater Park and contacted several people, including Casey Lorencz, 20, of Wasilla. Lorencz had been consuming alcohol and was in possession of a loaded handgun. Lorencz was issued criminal citations for misconduct involving a weapon in the fourth degree and minor consuming alcohol and released.

 

On 10/1/2017 at 6:26 p.m., Soldotna police responded to the Kenai Spur Highway for a reddi report.  Officers contacted Jesse Waltemyer, 34, of Soldotna, at 4 Royle Parkers and arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to Wildwood on $500 bail.

 

On 10-2-17 at 10:56 a.m., Soldotna police responded to the Sterling Highway and Kobuk Street for a motor vehicle collision. As an officer was arriving, one of the involved drivers fled the area on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Jacob Ligons, 21, of Anchorage, was taken into custody. Ligons was charged with driving without a valid license, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision and disorderly conduct, then taken to Wildwood, where he was shortly released from custody.

 

On 10-3-17 about 8:53 a.m., Soldotna police stopped a vehicle on Turnbuckle Terrace near Georges Drive. Oliver W. Chapman, 59, of Soldotna, was issued a criminal citation for driving a vehicle with no insurance and a municipal citation for driving while license revoked and released.

 

On 10/4/17 at 11:35 p.m., Soldotna police stopped a vehicle on Corral Avenue near Brentwood Street. Dennis Fields, 30, of Sterling, was arrested for driving under the influence of controlled substances and taken to Wildwood.

 

On 10/06/17 about 8:42 a.m., Soldotna police responded to the area of Redoubt Avenue for a reddi report. The vehicle was located in the parking lot of Redoubt Elementary School. Sheldon E. Harmon, 55, of Soldotna, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid driver’s license and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree and taken to Wildwood without bail.

 

On 10/6/17 at 9:12 p.m., Soldotna police responded to Walgreens for a report that a male driver backed his vehicle into an unoccupied parked vehicle and into the Walgreens building, causing damage. Larry Hoover, 62, of Homer, was arrested for driving under the influence. Hoover was later issued a criminal citation and released.

 

On 10/7/2017 at 12:15 a.m., Soldotna police responded to Taco Bell for male passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in the drive thru. James Rabon, 31, of Kenai, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to Wildwood on $500 bail.

 

On 10/07/2017 at 1:32 a.m., Soldotna police responded to the parking lot of the Maverick Saloon for a reported intoxicated driver. Sunny McCurdy, 36, of Soldotna, was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and taken to Wildwood.
